Beet-ing the Hangover Blues with Our Magical Beet Kvass!

Beet Kvass is a fermented beet tonic with medieval origins from Russia and Ukraine. Known as a cure-all tonic, this drink is used to help support liver function and help with blood filtration through the gallbladder. It was even used as a replacement for tainted water during times of communicable disease in Europe. How? With a high concentration of B vitamins, essential minerals, and folate. At Garden Goddess, we ferment a mixture of Pink Himalayan salt, organic beets, cinnamon, and cloves with the total fermentation-to-bottle process lasting about 4 weeks. While some recipes can contain yeast or added cultures, we let the naturally-high-in-sugar beets do all the work in our kvass. The cinnamon and cloves provide additional phytonutrients that help with the absorption of the healthy probiotic bacteria and stimulate blood flow.

Cinnamon is a known anti-inflammatory and also helps lower blood sugar levels, which are two very important things to note before running to the medicine cabinet for Tylenol or Ibuprofen after a wild night. Cloves help aid with digestion by increasing the amount of digestive enzymes in your stomach when consumed, making the Kvass and its healthy probiotics hit you harder than the sauce. 

High sodium foods are normally avoided on healthy diets, but the Himalayan sea salt content is definitely an exception in our Kvass. The pink sea salt contains over 80 trace minerals, specifically magnesium, potassium, and calcium. With many humans deficient in these minerals, our magical Kvass helps to increase absorption of them back into the body through your gut! Replenishing important electrolytes that alcohol consumption depletes is just another great benefit of beet kvass.
